Tracey Symonds

Tracey was a semi-finalist in the recent series of ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ where she achieved the most ‘firsts’ but never won ‘Garment of the week’! Tracey became known for her sense of humour and speedy sewing and was clearly having a fabulous time filming!

Tracey has been sewing since a teenager and mainly sewed for her family and friends. She was a primary school teacher for 25 years but retired last year to take part in the bee and then expand her love of sewing. She now has her own business ‘Polkadot designs’, which keeps her busy sewing for others, and teaching sewing classes all over Derbyshire. She has contributed to magazines and loves sharing her passion.

As a self-confessed fabric hoarder, Tracey loves shopping for fabric and is experienced at sewing with lots of different types. Her big love is jersey fabric, which she says is comfy and practical. She loves adapting and drafting patterns, to fit her shape and thinks that’s the best thing about being able to sew!
