As a graduate in fashion and textiles Sandra’s first role was as a garment technologist gaining technical experience of how to fit and grade garments and manipulate patterns. From here, she worked as a designer for UK and international manufacturing companies supplying garments to high street retailers. Sandra then went on to become a secondary school teacher, in Art and D&T before setting up her own business. Sandra owns and runs Leeds based creative studios and gallery space the Bowery where she teaches and develops the learning programme and creative events for adults and children. “My role also includes sourcing artists and designers-makers for the shop and I am the curator of the exhibition space, giving a platform for emerging artists to show their work,” said Sandra.
Sandra regularly runs workshops and talks outside the Bowery, she has been a long standing tutor for Twisted Thread events running workshops at the Knitting and Stitching shows nationwide, Prima magazine and Mc Calls Patterns. More locally she provides visiting lectures/talks at several universities. “This summer I have also developed a series of workshops for the Hepworth Gallery Wakefield to correspond with their Spring/Summer exhibitions’ added Sandra.
