Claire Tyler

Claire has been a seamstress and dressmaking tutor for many years. From making wedding dresses to running a fabric store, Claire has always loved working with fabric and makes all her own clothes.  About eight years ago Claire started teaching and as well as teaching at the Knitting and Stitching shows around the country, now has her own sewing school in Midhurst, West Sussex.   “I run workshops for beginners as well as those wishing to improve their skills and they range from simple skirts to Chanel style jackets, trousers and jeans to bras and corsets. There are full and half day workshops as well as evening classes and a series of half day technique workshops where you can build up a portfolio of samples from zips to pockets,” said Claire. “I am inspired by Couture and love to pass skills on to students,” she added.

Claire also teaches at Creative Sewing Weekends run by Wendy Gardiner and writes features for sewing magazines as well as continuing to make for clients. “These include The Goodwood Actors Guild where I am the Wardrobe Mistress, making for any events where costumes are needed. Many of these are Vintage themed which is an area of sewing I particularly love,” said Claire.
